House Groups

The House Group reflects our stewardship in the congregation.  Each one of us participates in the life and work of the Whitmore Park United Church.  We have gifts, talents and energy to share in the name of Jesus Christ.

House Groups are made up of members of the congregation and are responsible for various duties in the church and during worship on Sunday mornings.  The work of the House Group enables life and fellowship to happen in the church.  House Group leaders coordinate the distribution of duties, host a meeting of the House Group two weeks prior to the House Group`s month, and makes sure that all runs smoothly.  Each House Group is responsible for one month and covers the following duties:

  • Greeting
      • Folding bulletins
      • setting up the Guest Book table
      • welcoming people as they come in, directing them to the coat racks and then into the sanctuary
      • helping the ushers with offering
      • putting away the Guest book and hymnbooks at the end of the service
  • Ushers 
      • Folding bulletins if there are any
      • turn on lights and sound system when you arrive
      • hand out bulletins and hymnbooks
      • help people to their seats if needed
      • making sure that the offering plates are out on the back tables.  During the service, bring the offering plates forward for dedication when indicated in the liturgy
      • At the end of the service: open main doors, collect hymnbooks, turn off sound system and lights
  • Communion server 
      • help with serving the elements, usually intinction style, with the minister
      • once a month
  • Guest book attendant
      • encourage visiting folk to sign the Guest Book
      • handing out information sheets to newcomers
  • Scripture Reader
  • Nursery Attendant
  • Coffee makers/ Dishwashers
